Youth Committee Project
Winner of the Federal Garden Clubs of Connecticut 2020 Certificate of Achievement in Youth Programs
Trumbull Early Childhood Education (TECEC) Project
This project began in 2013 when club members worked in two preschool classrooms: a class of three year olds and a class of four year olds. We now focus solely on the three year olds presenting fifteen lessons a year encompassing a variety of gardening and nature related lessons.

Our planting projects include students planting mums in their window boxes in the fall, planting pansies in those same boxes in the spring (see photo below), and planting seeds for a gift for their moms for Mother’s Day.

The children hone their observation skills with a Fall scavenger hunt and a walk around the front of the school to find signs of Spring.

Experiments with rain and wind assist the children with an understanding of some forms of weather. Life cycles of a monarch butterfly and a frog are reinforced using paper puppets which the students use during the lessons.

These are just some of the lessons which are presented to the Pre-schoolers each year.
