Program: Gardening in the Victorian Era
Marie Hayes will take us back in time to the Victorian era today as she shares her knowledge and love of gardens. Marie is the proprietor of Gardens Unlimited and the former head gardener of White Flower Farm. She has specialized in perennial borders and cutting gardens for over 25 years. Marie has done professional consulting in New York, Florida Delaware and Connecticut. Marie also created and installed a garden along the Nile River in Luxor, Egypt.
Imagine being transported back into a Victorian garden full of grandmother’s hollyhocks, fragrant lilacs, blush roses and flowering wisteria. Marie’s presentation will depict American gardening during the period 1836-1901 illustrated by historical estates such as the Harriet Beecher Stowe House, the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, NY and the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY
