President's Message

The Long Hill Garden Club of Trumbull plays a significant role in creating a healthier and more beautiful environment, not only for Trumbull, but also for the State of Connnecticut and the nation as a whole. Our club is a part of a greater network of garden clubs -- the National Garden Clubs, Inc., the New England Garden Clubs, and the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc.

Each of these organizations has chosen a theme for this year that enables us to work together to conserve and beautify the natural surroundings in our country.  This year's theme for the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut is "Plant Conneecticut -- Be a Conservation Champion."  Building on this idea, the Long Hill Garden Club theme is "Protecting our Environment/Serving our Community."
As we enter our 76th year, this concept continues the vision of those who founded the club in 1941 as a service organization.  Their first project was growing victory gardens during the Second World War.  Our theme for this year continues our long history of service.
As an award-winning club, we have much to be proud of as our members have excelled in many areas.  We are especially thankful for all of you who serve different groups of people in many different ways.  Some of you serve in education, helping children or older adults.  Others serve by sharing your expertise in horticulture and floral design.  Still others serve in countless ways to help to protect our environment and beautify our community.  As we add creative new programs and maintain existing ones, we fulfill our purpose to "encourage interest in all phases of gardening, promote better horticultural practices, contribute to civic beauty and conserve our natural resources."
I am honored to be President again this year, and grateful for each one of you.  I look forward to working together in this coming year.
